On 4 July 2017, TransUnion Philippines held a credit risk management training workshop at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Brendan LeGrange, director of financial services research and consulting for TransUnion Asia Pacific, presented topics ranging from scorecard analytics to underwriting and portfolio management.
The one-day training session, which aims to support the government’s objective of enabling greater financial inclusion for citizens, was attended by approximately 30 members of the BSP’s examiners team, which conducts periodic reviews of the country’s banking operations and policies. In addition to the training, Geryll Pastor (TransUnion Philippines COO) and Paolo Villarroel (Product Manager) introduced TransUnion’s products and services to the audience. They discussed how these services enable Information for Good in financial institutions—promoting responsible lending when providing access to credit—and how they align with the BSP’s risk management guidelines.
There was considerable engagement on topics such as fintechs and risk-based pricing, both of which are relevant in the Philippine financial industry.
Positive feedback from the participant survey indicated that delegates found the topics extremely useful, particularly in light of their upcoming examination schedule later in the year.
